Rawalpindi railway station (Urdu: راولپنڈی ریلوے اسٹیشن, Punjabi: راولپنڈی ریلوے اسٹیشن) is located in the city of Rawalpindi, Punjab Province of Pakistan. It is situated near Saddar area.
Britain occupied Rawalpindi in 1849, and made it its permanent cantonment in 1851. In the year 1881, Rawalpindi was connected by a railway line and the beautiful colonial type building of this station was built. This city then became the largest cantonment in South Asia after having rail link.
The routes the British built from Rawalpindi, which contained a major military base, linked to Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Jhelum, Sibi, Sukkur, Sargodha, Sialkot, Larkana, Jhang, Mardan, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Kohat, Khanewal, Nawabshah, Nowshera and the Malakand Pass.
