Ransom County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2010 census, the population was 5,457. Its county seat is Lisbon. The county was created in 1873 and organized in 1881.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 864 square miles (2,240 km2), of which 862 square miles (2,230 km2) is land and 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2) (0.2%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,890 people, 2,350 households, and 1,560 families residing in the county. The population density was 7 people per square mile (3/km²). There were 2,604 housing units at an average density of 3 per square mile (1/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 97.93% White, 0.19% Black or African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 0.81% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. 39.5% were of German and 34.9% Norwegian ancestry.

There were 2,350 households out of which 31.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.10% were married couples living together, 5.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.60% were non-families. 30.70% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 3.01.
