Putnam Lake is a hamlet and census-designated place in the eastern part of the town of Patterson in Putnam County, New York, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,844. Putnam Lake is adjacent to the Connecticut border, which is crossed by a number of local streets. The community surrounds a lake, which is also called Putnam Lake.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.3 square miles (11 km2), of which 3.9 square miles (10 km2) is land and 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), or 10.21%, is water.
As of the 2010 census, there were 3,844 people, 1,407 households, and 985 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 997.0 per square mile (384.6/km²). There were 1,427 housing units at an average density of 369.1/sq mi (142.4/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 78.7% Non-Hispanic white, 13.8% Hispanic or Latino, 3.5% African American, 1.6% Asian, 0.2% Native American, 0.03% Pacific Islander, and .3% other races. 2.20% of the population were of two or more races.
