Poneto is a town in Chester, Harrison and Liberty townships, Wells County, in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 166 at the 2010 census.

The Poneto post office has been in operation since 1881.

According to the 2010 census, the town has a total area of 0.12 square miles (0.31 km²), all land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 166 people, 69 households, and 39 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,383.3 inhabitants per square mile (534.1/km²). There were 77 housing units at an average density of 641.7 per square mile (247.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.4% White and 0.6% Native American. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.8% of the population.
