Patharkandi is a township located in Karimganj district in the Indian state of Assam. It is 350 kilometres south of the state capital Guwahati and 32 kilometres south of the district headquarters Karimganj.

Approximately 90% of Patharkandi's residents are Bengalis who speak the Sylheti dialect, the rest being Bishnupriya Manipuris, Meiteis and some tribal groups like Khasis and Burmans.

Patharkandi is situated by the bank of the Longai River. Patharkandi is also an important police station and the name of an Assam Legislative Assembly constituency.

The name "Patharkandi" originated from the Bengali word pathar (meaning "paddy field") and kandi (meaning "riverbank").

Patharkandi was formerly known as Pratapgarh. An independent state of Pratapgarh was established by Malik Pratap in the 15th century.

Regular bus services connect Patharkandi with Guwahati, Shillong and Agartala via NH 8 (previously NH 44).

Patharkandi is part of the Patharkandi Assembly constituency and the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency.
