Parugu (English: Run) is a 2008 Telugu drama film written and directed by Bhaskar. Allu Arjun, Sheela and Prakash Raj played the lead roles while Poonam Bajwa and Jayasudha made crucial cameo appearances. Dil Raju produced the film on Sri Venkateswara Creations whilst Mani Sharma scored the film soundtrack and background score. Vijay C Chakravarthy and Marthand K. Venkatesh handled the cinematography & editing of the film respectively.
This film revolves around a person named Neelakanta and his love for his two daughters Subbalakshmi and Meenakshi. Neelakanta is a powerful man in his village who doesn't believe in love marriages. Subbalakshmi elopes with a guy called Errababu on the night of her arranged marriage. Neelakanta's men kidnap all the friends of Errababu and Krishna, a happy go lucky guy from Hyderabad, is one among them. Krishna falls in love with Meenakshi at first sight who happens to be the younger daughter of Neelakanta which he knows later. At first Meenakshi is scared and doesn't believe in love, but after Krishna saves her from a couple of men who want to rape her, she reciprocates his love. In the meanwhile, Neelakanta finds Subbalakshmi and Errababu but lets them go to find out she's pregnant. The rest is about how Krishna wins the heart of Neelkanta
The film was officially launched on 15 March 2007 at Hyderabad and the principal photography began in June 2007. The film was shot in Hyderabad, Kerala, Kodaikanal and Rajahmundry while a song was shot in Jordan. The principal photography came to an end in April 2008 though the makers planned it to complete by January 2008. The film was premiered in Prasads IMAX on 30 April 2008 at 10:45 PM while the film had its worldwide release on 2 May 2008. The film opened to mostly positive reviews and later emerged as a Sleeper hit and turned out to be one of very few hits of 2008. The film won 2 Nandi Awards and won 1 award & 3 nominations at the 56th Filmfare Awards South.
