Prasad's is a centrally air conditioned multiplex of an area of 2,35,000 sq ft, housing an IMAX Movie Theatre, a five screen multiplex, food court, multinational fast food outlets, a gaming zone and a Shopping mall covering two levels of the complex.
It is the single most popular IMAX theatre in India. Its 72-foot high, 95-foot wide screen is accompanied by 643 seats and a 12000-watt sound system. The Prasads IMAX theatre made its name by being the most attended screen in the world for major blockbusters such as the Harry Potter film franchise and Spider-Man films. They also got a record attendance for Christopher Nolan's Interstellar (2014) as Prasads IMAX was the only screen in India to have presented the movie in 70mm IMAX format. However, Prasads is no longer screening IMAX films due to the unavailability of digital projector for the very large screen.
Prasads IMAX of the L. V. Prasad group, was inaugurated on July 25, 2002 at the premises of the historical "Hussain Sagar Thermal Power Station" after its demolition, which was supposed to be India's first thermal power plant. IMAX leased its projection system to Prasads on a 33-year lease for $4.5 million and earns royalty on a per ticket basis after certain minimum(undisclosed) revenue.
The IMAX facility possesses a 6-channel sound system with an output of 12,000 watts of uncompressed digital surround sound.
The IMAX screen achieved record attendance for the movies, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. In April 2015, IMAX began rolling out its new laser digital projectors for venues with huge IMAX screens. These use two Barco 4K laser-illuminated projectors and need to be custom built for each screen. Prasads hasn't made any announcement regarding laser upgrade and IMAX official website has removed its name from the list of IMAX theatres in India stating that Prasads is no longer an IMAX theatre.
In May 2011, Prasads became the first Green theatre in India by installing a 100KWp Solar PhotoVoltaic power generation system on its rooftop.
