Palmer is a town in Ellis County, Texas, United States. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. Its population was 2,000 at the 2010 census, up from 1,774 at the 2000 census.
Palmer is located in northeastern Ellis County at 32°25′46″N 96°40′8″W / 32.42944°N 96.66889°W (32.429405, -96.669013).Interstate 45 passes through the east side of the town, with access from Exits 258 through 260; I-45 leads north 27 miles (43 km) to downtown Dallas and south 8 miles (13 km) to Ennis. Waxahachie, the county seat, is 11 miles (18 km) to the west.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.0 square miles (7.8 km2), of which 3.0 square miles (7.7 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km2), or 1.04%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,776 people, 556 households, and 454 families residing in the town. The population density was 627.7 people per square mile (242.0/km²). There were 591 housing units at an average density of 209.1 per square mile (80.6/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 86.70% White, 1.80% African American, 0.85% Native American, 0.23% Asian, 8.68% from other races, and 1.75% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 26.32% of the population.
