In Turkey, he is often called Hazrat (Saint) Muhammed, or "Peygamber Efendimiz" (Our massenger). In Iran, he is often called Hazrat (saint) or peyghambar (massenger).

When spoken or written in English, Muhammad's name is conventionally followed by the honorific phrase Blessings of God be upon Him and Peace (often abbreviated "PBUH" or simply "p"). The phrase renders Arabic صلى الله عليه وسلم, which is also found transcribed acronymically as "SAWS", however Islamic Scholars repeatedly emphasize the need to say and write the blessing in full, wherever it is written, either as Arabic or one's own language, and the use of such acronyms is considered inappropriate. The practice of sending blessings and salutations upon the Prophet, صلى الله عليه وسلم, is encouraged by a well-known verse of the Holy Quran.
