Najwa Karam (Arabic: نجوى كرم Arabic pronunciation: [ˈnaʒwa ˈkaɾam]) (born 26 February 1966) is a Lebanese, multi-Platinum singer, songwriter, and fashion icon, who has sold over 60 million records worldwide. Najwa is widely known for her vocal powerhouse Mawwal talents and has gained an international audience through her distinct blend of traditional Lebanese and contemporary sounds, which has contributed to the spread of the Lebanese dialect in Arabic Music. Najwa has the highest-selling Arabic-language albums for the years of 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2008. In 2011, Najwa debuted as a judge on the reality competition television series, Arabs' Got Talent; she has since appeared on all five of its seasons.
Najwa rose to stardom throughout the 1990s, earning the moniker, Shams el-Ghinnieh (“The Sun of Song”), from her eponymous second album and topping the charts throughout the Arab World with her albums, Naghmet Hob, Ma Bassmahlak, Maghroumeh, and Rouh Rouhi. In 2000, Najwa's tenth record, Oyoun Qalbi, sold over 5 million copies, holding the current record for best-selling Arabic-language album of all time. Continuing her success, in 2001 Najwa's record, Nedmaneh, sold over 4 million copies worldwide, earning her a Murex d'Or award for Best Arabic Artist and Rotana Records awards including, Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, and Highest-Selling Album. By the time her album Saharni was released in 2003, Najwa had established herself as one of the most prominent Lebanese singers and Middle Eastern pop icons. Throughout the late 2000s, Najwa's commercial success endured via her albums, Hayda Haki, Am Bemzah Ma'ak, and Khallini Shoufak. Najwa frequently worked with the renowned musician and composer Melhem Barakat and has collaborated with the legendary singer, Wadih el Safi on a their epic 2004 ballad titled, W Kberna ("We Grow Old Together"), which is renowned as one of the greatest Arabic language duets of the 2000s. In 2011, Najwa collaborated with Sony Entertainment and Rotana to produce the Arab World’s first 3D music video for her song, "MaFi Noum". Since her latest record in 2011, Hal Leile...MaFi Noum, Najwa has released well-received singles and music videos and has continued touring internationally. Najwa remains one of Rotana's most prominent artists.
