Muhammad Arif Butt (Urdu: محمد عارف بٹ) is the former vice-chancellor of the University of the Punjab in Lahore, Pakistan (2007-2008). He is a professor of chemical engineering and previously served as the dean of the faculty of Chemical Engineering and Technology and also as the director of Chemical Engineering and Technology at the University of the Punjab. He is a current member and the former president (2008-2010) of Pakistan Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE).
Butt did his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in chemical engineering from University of the Punjab and later received his Ph.D in chemical engineering from Nagoya University in Nagoya, Japan. His thesis was entitled "Gas absorption with complex chemical reaction" and it was under supervision of Eizo Sada (co-supervisor Hidehiro Kumazawa).
