Mount Ayr is a town in Jackson Township, Newton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 122 at the 2010 census.
Mount Ayr was laid out as a town in 1882 when the railroad was extended to that point. The town was named after Mount Airy, North Carolina, the native home of its founder.

As of the census of 2010, there were 122 people, 51 households, and 31 families residing in the town. The population density was 813.3 inhabitants per square mile (314.0/km2). There were 57 housing units at an average density of 380.0 per square mile (146.7/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.5% White and 2.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.7% of the population.
There were 51 households of which 19.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.1% were married couples living together, 9.8% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 39.2% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
