The Ministry or Board of Punishments was one of the Six Ministries under the Department of State Affairs in imperial China.
The Ministry of Punishments is also commonly translated as the Ministry or Board of Justice, in accordance with the usual English title for a government department with its role.
Under the Ming, the Ministry of Punishments had charge of most judicial and penal processes, but had no authority over the Censorate or the Grand Court of Revision.
