Markapuram is a town in Prakasam district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a municipality and the headquarters of Markapur mandal in Markapur revenue division. As of 2011[update] the town had a population of 71,092. It has radio station.
Markapuram is located at 15°44′N 79°17′E / 15.73°N 79.28°E. It has an average elevation of 145 metres (475 ft).
Markapuram is located on the Thokapalli - Nadayal State Highway. Railway station is 5 km from town. It is a part of the Guntur division of South Central Railway division. The railway line from Vijayawada to Guntakal passes through this station.
The primary and secondary school education is imparted by government, aided and private schools, under the School Education Department of the state. The medium of instruction followed by different schools are English, Telugu.
