Marion County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2010 census, the population was 27,088. Its county seat is Columbia. Marion County is named for American Revolutionary War guerrilla leader Francis Marion.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 549 square miles (1,420 km2), of which 542 square miles (1,400 km2) is land and 6.2 square miles (16 km2) (1.1%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 25,595 people, 9,336 households, and 6,880 families residing in the county. The population density was 47 people per square mile (18/km²). There were 10,395 housing units at an average density of 19 per square mile (7/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 66.96% White, 31.87% Black or African American, 0.23% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.11% from other races, and 0.62% from two or more races. 0.62% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
