Luiz Fernando Carvalho de Almeida (born in 1960 in Rio de Janeiro), is a Brazilian director, producer, writer, and film editor. He is known for inventive adaptations of Brazilian novels to films and TV series, such as Lavoura Arcaica (To the left of the father), , Hoje É Dia de Maria and Dois Irmãos.
He studied literature and architecture. His first feature film was Lavoura Arcaica (To the left of the father), based on the novel of the same name by Raduan Nassar. The movie retains the novelist's poetical language.
His works on TV include artistic series such as and Capitu. Both of them show Luiz Fernando's different style of directing for television. He is also known for directing the telenovelas O Rei do Gado and Velho Chico.
