Linneus is a town in Aroostook County, Maine, United States. The population was 984 at the 2010 census. It is named after Carl Linnaeus.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 45.47 square miles (117.77 km2), of which 44.26 square miles (114.63 km2) is land and 1.21 square miles (3.13 km2) is water.
As of the census of 2010, there were 984 people, 382 households, and 272 families residing in the town. The population density was 22.2 inhabitants per square mile (8.6/km2). There were 588 housing units at an average density of 13.3 per square mile (5.1/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 96.6% White, 0.8% African American, 1.8% Native American, 0.1% Asian, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.4% of the population.
There were 382 households of which 28.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 8.4% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.8% were non-families. 19.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.95.
