Le Mouret is a municipality in the district of Sarine in the canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. It was created on January 1, 2003 from the union of the former municipalities of Bonnefontaine, Essert, Montévraz, Oberried, Praroman, and Zénauva.
Le Mouret has an area, as of 2009[update], of 18.5 square kilometers (7.1 sq mi). Of this area, 8.95 km2 (3.46 sq mi) or 48.3% is used for agricultural purposes, while 7.84 km2 (3.03 sq mi) or 42.3% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 1.61 km2 (0.62 sq mi) or 8.7% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.02 km2 (4.9 acres) or 0.1% is either rivers or lakes and 0.05 km2 (12 acres) or 0.3% is unproductive land.
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 5.5% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.0%. Out of the forested land, 40.6% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.7% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 14.5% is used for growing crops and 30.4% is pastures and 3.0% is used for alpine pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water.
Le Mouret has a population (as of December 2015[update]) of 3,073. As of 2008[update], 8.5% of the population are resident foreign nationals. Over the last 10 years (2000–2010) the population has changed at a rate of 8.4%. Migration accounted for 4%, while births and deaths accounted for 4.6%.
Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks French (975 or 87.1%) as their first language, German is the second most common (104 or 9.3%) and Portuguese is the third (12 or 1.1%). There are 11 people who speak Italian.
