Kranji Secondary School is a band 3 secondary school located in Choa Chu Kang, Singapore.
In 2005, the school was chosen as the site to film the sitcom version of Jack Neo's hit film I Not Stupid Too.
Kranji Secondary School was established in 1995 and was temporarily housed for that year in Chestnut Drive Secondary with a Secondary One cohort. The school moved to its present campus a year later, in 1996. From the very beginning, the school was a mixed school with both sexes and included students from all three streams – Express, Normal Academic and Normal Technical.
While the name Kranji is often associated with the part of Woodlands in the North of Singapore, its namesake, Kranji Secondary is located away from Woodlands and is temporarily nestled in No. 38 Teck Whye Crescent Singapore 688945 as the main site is undergoing renovation.
While there are no official documentations, research shows that the name Kranji is derived from the Keranji trees which are members of the leguminous family which are commonly found in the forests of Peninsula Malaysia and Indonesia, Sabah and Sarawak. The trees are sturdy and tall rainforest trees that bear black velvet-like pods filled with ‘dried-fruit-like’ flesh. These trees are found on flat and hilly lands but not in swamps. The Keranji tree is made of a type of timber that is characterised by its strong tenacity. In a constantly fast evolving world, the school wants to nurture students who are resilient, sturdy and unfazed by these changes, and instead adapt to the changing circumstances.
