Kirill Sarychev is a Russian powerlifter, world record holder in RAW Bench Press. He holds many World, and European records and medalling finishes in three-lift powerlifting, as well as bench press. In November 2015 he set the world record in RAW Bench Press with 335kg. Sarychev is the President of the World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF).
Kirill Sarychev was born on the 1st of January, 1989 in the city of Pugachev, Saratov Oblast’, Russian Federation. He graduated with Honours from School No. 1, Pugachev, Saratov Oblast’, and then from the Pugachev Hydrological Land Improvement Technical College in 2007. In 2012 he earned a degree from the Saratov State Vavilov Agrarian University. He began powerlifting at 15 years of age under Coach Victor Nikolaevich Mikheyev.
In 2009, while at the WPC World Championships in Rostov-on-Don Kirill Sarychev met Andrey Fedoseyev, who invited him to compete at the first ever Battle of Champions – 2010, in Arkhangelsk. The event featured two divisions without equipment – bench press and deadlift, and Sarychev participated in both. Deadlift placement was determined by the Glossbrenner formula, and Sarychev placed 5th, having deadlifted 320kg. In the bench press, Sarychev placed 1st, having benched 300kg. This was the first instance of Sarychev breaking the 300kg barrier in RAW Bench Press. After this event, Sarychev shifted his training to accentuate the bench press, instead of overall three-lift development. In 2014, at the Battle of Champions competition, Sarychev bench pressed 326kg, passing the 324.5kg bench of Scott Mendelson (2005). Sarychev was, at this time, second only to Eric Spoto, whose 2013 record exceeded his by 1.5kg. In 2015, at the SN PRO Cup of Bench Press and Deadlift, Sarychev benched 330kg in the second attempt, exceeding the previous world record by 2.5kg. In the third attempt, Sarychev raises it even further, having bench pressed 335kg. Sarychev’s body weight at this event was 172.9kg.
In 2014, Kirill Sarychev founded a new powerlifting federation – World Raw Powerlifting Federation (WRPF) – and became its President. The first Russian, and World WRPF Championships took place in Moscow in May and December, 2015, respectively.
