It is located in the region of Pirkanmaa, Western Finland. The municipality has a population of 2,022 (31 March 2016) and covers an area of 357.10 square kilometres (137.88 sq mi) of which 33.39 km2 (12.89 sq mi) is water. The population density is 5.66 inhabitants per square kilometre (14.7/sq mi).
