KBS2 is a general entertainment and drama channel of the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). It is famous for its drama and entertainment programs. The television station is a result of the forced merger of the Tongyang Broadcasting Corporation (former body of JTBC) to KBS in 1980. KBS2 is similar to BBC One in the United Kingdom, NPO 1 in the Netherlands, France 2 in France, TVNZ 2 in New Zealand and Das Erste in Germany.
KBS2 is the home of predominantly entertainment and drama programs produced by KBS as well as airing KBS Evening 6 Newstime, the station's only main newscast, Music Bank and You Hee-Yeol's Sketchbook, the network's main musical programs, Happy Together, Let's Go Dream Team!, 2 Days & 1 Night, The Return of Superman and Immortal Songs, the network's well known variety shows.
KBS2 accepts commercial advertisements unlike KBS1 which is because KBS1 is prohibited to air commercial advertisements upon the enactment of the revised Broadcasting Act in 1994.
As part of the Korean Wave, KBS2 dramas, along with its sister channel, KBS1, have been exported to Southeast Asia, Middle East, North America, South America, Europe, Africa, China and Japan via KBS World, KBS World (Japan), KBS World (United States) and their TV broadcasters from their respective countries.
