Jagtial is municipal town in Karimnagar district of Telangana, India.
There are widespread reports of the name of this place, one excerpts from historians states that from 1110 to 1116 CE a warrior named Jaggaddevudu who reigned Polasa as his capital. After winning 21 battles in the surrounding areas and is instrumental in establishing several new villages, Has built a temple 6km south of Polasa in his remembrance which is known as Jaggadevalayam which is in the present day Jagitial and eventually became the name of the place.
There is a Fort in Jagitial which is Designed by two French engineers Mr. Jack and Mr. Tal in 1747 CE. It was built during the reign of Nawab Ibrahim, a Governor in the Mughal dynasty. This is the only star shaped fort in the State with a moat with, The fort is surrounded by deep trenches filled with water from Kandlapalli lake. There are number of rooms for storing arms and ammunition. This fort used to be revenue center until 18 century with over 200 guards. Back then Jagitial had 516 houses with a total population of 2,812 pupil.
There is a Clock tower in the center of city which is built by the then Aristocrat of Jagitial Juvvadi Dharmajalapati Rao on the occassion of Silver jubilee celebrations of seventh nawab of Telangana state Mir Osman ali khan in 1937. Dharmajalapati has also built a Gadi/Castle which has stark resemblance to the Castle of Calgal with Large towers on either side and thick columns with steps to the top floor where duvvam talukdars used to reside. The Castle is still Intact.

As of 2011[update]Census of India, the town had a population of 96,470. The average literacy rate stands at 78.61% with 67,931 literates, significantly higher than the national average of 73.00%.
The economy of Jagtial is purely based on commercial and retail consumer business. The town is considered to be a shopping hub for the surrounding towns and for North Telangana and a majority of the trading community conduct business related to groceries, clothing, pharmaceuticals, iron and hardware.In case of industrial imports,the town should import from Jammikunta,which is the only industrial city in the district.
