The Iranian Institute of Philosophy (IRIP) (Persian: مؤسسه پژوهشی حکمت و فلسفه ایران), formerly Imperial Iranian Academy of Philosophy (انجمن شاهنشاهی حکمت و فلسفهٔ ایران‎), is a public research institute in Iran.

In September 1974, Farah Pahlavi Empress of Iran commissioned her personal secretary Hossein Nasr, Head of the Empress's Private Bureau, to establish and lead the Imperial Iranian Academy of Philosophy. It was the first academic institution to be founded upon the principles of philosophical Traditionalism. Nasr was a Professor of History of Science and Philosophy at University of Tehran who also served for several years as President of Sharif University of Technology in Iran.

William Chittick, who is a renowned scholar of Sufi thought, literature, and Islamic philosophy, completed his PhD in Persian literature at Tehran University in 1974. He then taught comparative religion at the Humanities Department at Sharif University and left Iran just before the revolution in 1979. He was also for a short period before the revolution an assistant professor at it. He has also served as assistant editor of Encyclopædia Iranica and is currently professor of Religious Studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Chittick has had collaborations with Seyyed Hossein Nasr and Allameh Tabatabaei on several projects.
