Ingrid Goes West is an American comedy-drama film directed by Matt Spicer and written by Spicer and David Branson Smith. The film stars Aubrey Plaza, Elizabeth Olsen, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Wyatt Russell, and Billy Magnussen.
The film premiered in competition at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award. It is scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017 by Neon.
Ingrid Thorburn is a mentally unstable young woman in Pennsylvania who becomes obsessed with Taylor Sloane, a social media "influencer" with a seemingly perfect life in Los Angeles. When Ingrid decides to drop everything and move to the West Coast to befriend Taylor in real life, her behavior turns unsettling and increasingly dangerous.
Principal photography began on July 11, 2016 in Los Angeles and wrapped August 12, 2016 in Joshua Tree, California.
Ingrid Goes West had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 20, 2017. Shortly after, Neon beat out competitive offers from A24 and Netflix to acquire the North American distribution rights to the film. It is scheduled to be released on August 4, 2017.
