Heart extra is a national digital radio station owned and operated by Global as part of the Heart network
On 2 February 2016 Global announced that Heart Extra will be launching on 29 February. The line-up will include Jenni Falconer, Mark Wright and Jason Donovan. The station will feature some of sister station Heart’s presenters including Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton.
The station broadcasts from studios at Leicester Square in London.
From 12 November to 27 December 2016, Heart Extra was rebranded as "Heart Extra Xmas" with the slogan 'Turn up the festive feel good!'.
On 14 March 2017, Heart Extra was removed from Sky (and presumably also Virgin) TV platforms in favour of Heart 80s. Heart Extra will continue on DAB and online as before.
The station goes presenter-free from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays (as a result of local drivetime programming), 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays (for Emma Bunton's show) and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Sundays (for Vodafone Big Top 40). Outside these times, it simulcasts Heart London.
