Hassan Niknafs

Hassan Niknafs is the current president (rector) of Khazar University in Baku, Azerbaijan.

He finished his bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering 1976 at Pahlavi University (now Shiraz University) in Shiraz, Iran, then continued his education at Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, USA, receiving a master's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1979. In 1994 he completed a Doctorate Degree in Mechanical Engineering (With Emphasis on Algorithm Development for Highly Convective Flow Fields related to Heat Transfer and Fluid Dynamic Applications) at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.

From 1979 to 1985, he was a project engineer for National Iranian Oil Company. In 1986–1988, he worked as a teaching assistant at Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Akron. Then in 1988 he became a research and development engineer for Saint-Gobain NorPro Corporation, previously known as the Norton Chemical Process Products Corporation in Stow, OH. From 2001 to 2012, he taught Applied Math courses at the University of Akron. Then he became Dean of the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Khazar University. In 2015 he was appointed president of Khazar University.
