Guy Rolnik


Guy Rolnik (Hebrew: גיא רולניק‎‎; born September 2, 1968) is a journalist, executive, entrepreneur and a Professor at the University of Chicago, He founded Israeli media organization TheMarker and is Deputy Publisher of the Haaretz daily newspaper.

Rolnik is arguably the most influential business journalist in Israel. An award-winning Israeli documentary, The Silver Platter, described Rolnik as “Israel’s most influential economics and business journalist”. An independent Israeli watchdog states that Rolnik “has led a change in the Israeli press centered around making the economy a major issue in public discourse while turning a spotlight on the connections between the government and powerful businesspeople and their influence on economic policy and regulation”.

In 2013 Rolnik was awarded the “Sokolov Life Time Achievement” award for founding TheMarker, changing public discourse and influencing the government and legislators to undertake significant changes in the structure of the Israeli economy.

Israel's Anti-Concentration Law was passed in patliament in December 2013 after a long campaign by Rolnik and TheMarker. The Bill aims to address the problems in the Israeli economy due to flaws in the structure of financial markets and the influence of big money on regulation, politics and media.

Rolnik and TheMarker campaigned for competition in the mobile telephony market dominated by 3 companies. Prices dropped by 50% to 90% when xompetition was enforced.

Rolnik is a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He teaches courses on economic policy, media and regulation in Chicago, Tel Aviv University and the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya.

Rolnik has a BA degree in Economics from Tel Aviv University (July 1996) and an MBA from the Tel Aviv and Northwestern University's Kellogg-Recanati program (July 1998). He also graduated from Harvard University's Advanced Management Program (AMP; Nov 2003).
