Frank Lisciandro


Frank Lisciandro is an American photographer, film maker, writer and musical journalist with works in photojournalism, reportage, documentary and street photography. He was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received a BA in photojournalism at Michigan State University and continued at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), graduating with an MFA in Motion Pictures and while at UCLA studied photography with Robert Heineken.

His works have appeared in books, magazines, documentary films, newspapers, journals, videos, record albums. He has been in a number of solo exhibitions and group shows, and has directed, produced and written a number of films.

Having developed a great friendship with The Doors' former singer Jim Morrison since they both met him at UCLA along and with The Doors' organist Ray Manzarek, he has been involved in many posthumous Morrison projects. In 1979, he coproduced the recording An American Prayer that was nominated for a Grammy Award and won the Dutch Edison Award. His work was featured in books An Hour for Magic, A Feast of Friends, Jim Morrison: Diario Fotografico,Jim Morrison: Friends Gathered Together and co-directing documentaries co-Hwy: An American Pastoral, Feast of Friends, Dawn's Highway and HWY: An American Pastoral with various capacities as writer, producer, director. His photos of Morrison have been used in the US publication Rolling Stone and the French magazine Rock & Folk, British music publications New Musical Express (NME), Uncut and Mojo and Italian publications La Republica, L'Unita as well.
