Fazenda is a subdivision in the north of Praia in the island of Santiago, Cape Verde just north of the Plateau which is the city center. The size is very small, its length is 630 meters and its width ranges from 350 meters in the south to 250 meters in the middle and less than 200 meters in the northernmost part. Its approximate size is about 25 to 30 hectares.
Fazenda is the second historic part of the city of Praia, the third is Gamboa-Chã das Areias or Vila Nova and the fourth is Palmarejo. The center has a couple of colonial neoclassical buildings in the area, once dominated in most of the area, modern architecture dominated the outskirts of the neighborhood.
Bordering neighborhoods include Lem Cachorro to the northeast, Paiol to the east, the Plateau of Praia to the south, Várzea-Sucupira to the southwest, Achadinha de Baixo to the west and Vila Nova (Vila Nova sobre Praia to outsiders) to the north. The north are bordered at Ribeira da Trindade which flows to the north and Fazenda excludes that portion.
The lowest point is 12 meters where Rua do Aeroporto is located. The middle is 15 meters and 18 meters at the main highway and by the stream in the north, the highest is nearly 20 meters just nearly 100 meters south of the stream.
Its etymology is the area had a farmstead once existed up to the 20th century.
The main streets and roads include Rua Caixa Econômica (EN1-ST01, alternate route of EN1-ST03), Rua Che Guevara, Nhonho Rocha and the Praia - Assomada Tarrafal Road (EN1-ST01).
Praia's main fire station is located in the middle of Fazenda, Rua do Bombeiros is named after it. Caixa Económica de Cabo Verde headquarters and its stock market are located in the southwest. PMI, Praia's second hospital is in the southwest. Fazenda's Police station is at the limits of the neighborhood and also serves nearby Achadinha de Baixo and a part of Vila Nova. Hotel Cesária is the only hotel in Fazenda and one of many outside the city center.
Fazenda has the Swiss embassy for Cape Verde.
The areas where Ribeira da Trindade was once flowed was mainly forested and uncertain it had the only natural field in the area. The forests were cleared in the 16th or the 17th century and a field dominated until the 1950s when the urban sprawl of Praia entirely spreaded into Fazenda. Ribeira da Trindade's banks became concreted to protect the area from flooding.
