Farm to Market Roads in Texas are owned and maintained by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

Ranch Road 501 is a 35.6 mile Texas Ranch-to-Market road in Mason and San Saba Counties. Beginning at a junction with SH 71 in Pontotoc the road travels north and east to Cherokee then north and east to a junction with FM 580 SW of Bend.

First authorized in February of 1945, as FM 501, a 3.4 mile road between SH 16 in Cherokee and the Salt Creek Road in San Saba County. The road's designation changed to RM October 31, 1957 and extended west to Pontotoc, replacing FM 1648. On September 27, 1960, the road was extended to a junction with FM 580.
