Syrian Civil War

Euphrates Volcano (Arabic: بركان الفرات‎, translit. Burkān al-Furāt‎) is a joint operations room/coalition established during the Syrian Civil War. It mainly consists of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) and certain factions of the Free Syrian Army (FSA). The group seeks to expel the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant from Aleppo and Ar-Raqqah provinces.

In an October 2015 publication, the Washington D.C.-based Institute for the Study of War considered Euphrates Volcano as one of the "powerbrokers" in Aleppo Province, being primarily "anti-ISIS" but not necessarily "anti-regime". The capture of Tell Abyad in July 2015 was a recent success of the Euphrates Volcano operations room.

The YPG started to train FSA members of the group in 2014. Although the Raqqa Guardians Rebels and the Jihad in the Path of God Brigade were mentioned as being part of the operations room, they released statements indicating that they were not affiliated with it. The Jihad in the Path of God Brigade later joined the operations room.

Some groups operate under the name of the Euphrates Volcano as a united group, as some used the name during the establishment of the Syrian Democratic Forces. The Euphrates Volcano was one of the founding members.

As of late 2015/early 2016 the collation appears to be defunct, being superseded by various other groups and military councils within' the SDF.
