DrinkBox Studios is an independent video game development studio located in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The company was founded in 2008 by several members of Pseudo Interactive, after that company closed.
DrinkBox Studios was founded in April 2008 by Chris Harvey, Ryan MacLean and Graham Smith shortly following the closing of Pseudo Interactive where the three had worked. They decided to start an independent studio aimed at creating unique gaming experiences.
DrinkBox Studios is certified to develop for iOS, Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Wii U and Xbox 360. In addition to developing original game projects of their own, they have also provided work-for-hire development services in programming, art and design on a number of projects for Activision, Vicarious Visions, Playbrains, Bedlam Games, Electronic Arts, Bytemark Games, TransGaming, Capybara Games and Visual Sports.
They announced their first game, titled Tales from Space: About a Blob on June 11, 2010 and released it for PlayStation 3 via PlayStation Network on February 1, 2011 for PlayStation Plus subscribers and on February 8, 2011 for everyone else. They announced their second game, titled Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack on August 23, 2011 for release for PlayStation Vita via PlayStation Network in early 2012 and Microsoft Windows release on August 15, 2012. On April 9, 2013, DrinkBox Studios released Guacamelee! as a digital download title via PlayStation Network for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 3, with a Microsoft Windows release on August 8, 2013. An enhanced edition was released for Wii U, Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in July 2014.
