Deerfield is a town in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,470 at the 2000 census. The Village of Deerfield is located within the town. The unincorporated communities of London and Old Deerfield are located in the town.
The town was named for the great number of deer in the surrounding fields.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 34.5 square miles (89.3 km²), of which, 34.3 square miles (88.9 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (0.44%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,470 people, 486 households, and 404 families residing in the town. The population density was 42.8 people per square mile (16.5/km²). There were 503 housing units at an average density of 14.7 per square mile (5.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 93.47% White, 3.74% Black or African American, 0.34% Native American, 0.88% Asian, 0.82% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 1.50% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 486 households out of which 41.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.5% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% were non-families. 12.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.77 and the average family size was 3.03.
