Daniel Diermeier


Daniel Diermeier is the University of Chicago’s Provost. He succeeded Eric Isaacs on July 1, 2016.

From 2014 to 2016, Diermeier served as Dean of the Harris School of Public Policy. Previously, he taught at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management as well as the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Rochester.

Diermeier is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a research fellow at the Canadian Institute of Advanced Research (CIFAR). In 2014, he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in political science.

Diermeier’s research interests include economics, political theory, and crisis management. Outside of academia, he has served in advisory roles to institutions including Johnson & Johnson, Accenture, the City of Chicago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and UnitedHealth Group.
