Cuyahoga County (/ˌkaɪ.əˈhɒɡə/ or /ˌkaɪ.əˈhoʊɡə/KY-ə-HOG-ə or KY-ə-HOH-gə) is a county located in the U.S. state of Ohio. As of the 2016 census estimates, the population was 1,249,352, making it the second most populous county in the state. Its county seat is Cleveland. The county is named after the Iroquoian word Cuyahoga, which means 'crooked river'. The name is also assigned to the Cuyahoga River, which bisects the county.
