"Cool Girl" is a song by Swedish singer and songwriter Tove Lo. It was written by Lo with the record production duo The Struts, who also produced the track. "Cool Girl" was released by Island Records on 4 August 2016 as the lead single from her second studio album Lady Wood.
"Cool Girl" is an electropop song written by Tove Lo, Ludvig Söderberg, and Jakob Jerlström, with its production handled by the latter two as the production duo The Struts. Lyrically, the song is about an invitation to form a non-traditional and non-monogamous romance, in which the singer describes herself as a "cool girl" interested in an open relationship. According to Lo, the song's main lyrical theme was inspired by a scene and monologue from the feature film Gone Girl (2014), where the character of Amy Elliott-Dunne (portrayed by Rosamund Pike) "goes from being a victim to a psycho."
The song's music video, directed by Tim Erem, premiered on 19 August 2016, via Lo's Vevo channel. The video is a part of the short film, titled Fairy Dust which features the first six songs from Lady Wood.
