Casalduni is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Benevento in the Italian region Campania, located about 60 km northeast of Naples and about 15 km northwest of Benevento, on the slopes of Monte Cicco on the right of the Tammaro river.
On 14 August 1861, together with Pontelandolfo, it was the seat of a massacre by the Piedmontese occupation troops as a revenge for the killing of 45 military soldiers, allegedly made by brigands. Women and children were burnt alive in their houses; girls were raped and hanged just because they were present in the streets. Old and young who were unarmed were gutted and killed with bayonets by Piedmontese troops sent by General Cialdini. This is similar in scope to the Second World War's SS retaliations against civilians or to the Marocchinate episode.
