Carmen María Montiel Ávila is a Venezuelan pageant titleholder. She is the Miss Venezuela titleholder for 1984, and was the official representative of Venezuela to the Miss Universe 1984 pageant held in Miami, Florida, United States, on July 9, 1984, when she won the title of 2nd Runner Up. She also was crowned Miss Sudamerica in a competition where all of the Participants from the region compited before the Miss Universe Pageant.
After the Miss Universe, Carmen became part of the TV program "Good morning Venezuela". Later, she was part of the first group of "complices" in the morning variety program Complicidades, issued in the mid-eighties in Venevisión.
In 1988 She decided to go to the United States to further her education. She lived in North Carolina and Tennessee, where she studied Journalism. In 1991 she obtained with honors (Magna Cum Laude) its title of Communications and that same year she moves to Houston, Texas, city in which she resides with her Family since then.
She began to work in Telemundo Houston, as a Reporter, becoming soon after the anchor of Telemundo-CNN. Since 2000 she dedicated much of her time in works for charitable Organizations in the United States as well in other countries, where her altruism is recognized.
She has three children: Alexandra Isabel, Carmen María and Juan Diego, who live with her and take an important part of her time.
