Calendasco is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Piacenza in the Italian region Emilia-Romagna, located about 150 kilometres (93 mi) northwest of Bologna and about 9 kilometres (6 mi) northwest of Piacenza.
Welcome to the village of Calendasco, a sleepy hollow on the Emilia-Romagna bank of the river Po.
Step back in time by visiting Borgo Castello and the Hostelry of San Corrado, both on the main street running through this peaceful hamlet.
As you enter Calendasco territory from the Via Emilia just after the bridge over the Trebbia River you will find a plaque commemorating the battle of Trebbia 213 b.c. where Hannibal trounced the Roman army.
As you progress you will happen across Viola’s Restaurant where you can dine on local cuisine every day except Sunday.
Proceeding towards Malpaga, you will find the Trattoria dei Pescatori -”The Fisherman’s Inn”-, once again offering fine local fare.
In the village of Cotrebbia you can dine al fresco at Sammy’s Pizzeria. Tobacco can be purchased at Gino’s in Cotrebbia or at Allo Sbaraglio at Incrociata, where you can also dine at lunchtime.
Proceeding into Calendasco village itself, the local superette run by the Grassi sisters Lorenza and Loredana stocks a wide variety of products and there is a Chemist, run by Lucilla and Vittorio, just across the road next to the school.
As you arrive in the main square ‘Piazza Bergamaschi’ you will see our fine Church and just behind it, our crowning jewel, the Castle and Borgo of Calendasco.
Bar Zoe, run by Marielena, provides refreshments and ice-cream as you watch the world go by.
Here you will find our hole in the wall for cash emergencies at Cariparma bank.
As you continue on the main road you will see the Post Office and the Barber’s Salon.
Just a few yards more and you will come across the Three Crowns Bar Restaurant and Hostel where you can dine on local and international cuisine, sing, dance and spend the night at very reasonable prices.
A little further down the main street you can sample thirst quenching draught beer at Circolo Templari.
