Bloomberg TV Canada is a Canadian English language Category B specialty channel owned in whole or majority-owned by Channel Zero.
The channel broadcasts programming focused primarily on the coverage of international business markets and financial news and current events sourced from Bloomberg Television. The channel launched on November 17, 2015 by replacing the American Bloomberg channel in Canada.
On February 26, 2015, Channel Zero announced it had reached an agreement with Bloomberg L.P. to launch a localized Canadian business news channel as an offshoot of its original Bloomberg Television channel, later announced to expect to launch on November 16, 2015 with its studios located in downtown Toronto in the city's financial district.
Amanda Lang was announced to host her own television series, Bloomberg North, a twice-weekly evening program to begin sometime in early 2016.Bloomberg North will be a half-hour show that “will dissect local and global business news with Canadian heavyweights,” Bloomberg said in a statement.
The channel launched one day later than expected on November 17, 2015.
On October 13, 2015, CBC announced Amanda Lang was leaving for Bloomberg TV Canada. The network has also hired former BNN journalists Pamela Ritchie as anchor of The Daily Brief and Michael Bancroft as executive producer of the channel.
After Bloomberg TV Canada launched, fellow CBC reporter/anchor Danielle Bochove followed her former colleague cross town to join Bloomberg TV Canada primarily on a part-time basis, serving as substitute anchor for Bloomberg North and, occasionally, The Daily Brief, in addition to occasional reporting duties covering Canadian financial markets alongside her colleagues.
