Billom (French pronunciation: [bijɔ̃]) is a commune in the Puy-de-Dôme department in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in central France.
It was the birthplace of philosopher Georges Bataille. Hugh Aycelin was a 13th-century French Dominican theologian and philosopher who served as lector at the studium provinciale at Santa Sabina, the forerunner of the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas, Angelicum. In 1294 he was raised to the Cardinalate.
