Humayun | Sher Shah Suri |
The Battle of Chausa was a notable military engagement between the Mughal emperor, Humayun, and the Afghan, Sher Shah Suri. It was fought on 26 June 1539 at Chausa, 10 miles southwest of Buxar in modern-day Bihar, India. Sher Shah delayed the engagement by pretending to negotiate and created a stalemate for three months from April to June until the monsoon came. He then attacked the Mughal army in a rain storm in the early morning and took them by surprise. Humayun had to escape by crossing the Ganga. Sher Shah was victorious and crowned himself Farīd al-Dīn Shēr Shah.
