Backlash (2017) is an upcoming professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event and WWE Network event, produced by WWE for the SmackDown brand. It is scheduled to take place on May 21, 2017, at the Allstate Arena in the Chicago suburb of Rosemont, Illinois. It will be the thirteenth event in the Backlash chronology, and the second Backlash to be held in the Allstate Arena, the first in 2001.

The card will include matches resulting from scripted storylines and have results predetermined by WWE on the SmackDown brand. Storylines are produced on WWE's weekly television show SmackDown Live.

At WrestleMania 33, Randy Orton defeated Bray Wyatt to win his ninth WWE Championship. Wyatt was then moved to the Raw brand as a result of the 2017 WWE Superstar Shake-up, but was allowed his rematch at the Raw-exclusive pay-per-view, Payback. On the April 18 episode of SmackDown, The Bollywood Boyz (Gurv and Harv Sihra) made their SmackDown debut under their new ring name of The Singh Brothers and helped Jinder Mahal to defeat Dolph Ziggler, Mojo Rawley, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, and Sami Zayn in a six-pack challenge to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship at Backlash.
