BSOD (acronym for Better Sounding On Drugs) was a American-Canadian electro house duo comprising Steve Duda and Joel Zimmerman (better known as deadmau5). They released their debut single "This Is The Hook" on Play Records in 2006 and topped the Beatport top 100 that year. They have since released a studio album and two EPs, up until their disband in late 2008.
BSOD was formed in 2005, prior to Duda and Zimmerman meeting in person. Duda left his home at the time in Los Angeles, California and moved to Zimmerman's residency in Toronto, Ontario. The name "BSOD" (which traditionally stands for Blue Screen of Death, a computer error) was chosen for the group after they created the song of the name "Better Sounding On Drugs" (from Played Out) which the duo claim the acronym stands for.
In 2006, The duo wrote their first release "This Is The Hook" (with vocals provided by a text to speech voice generator) in a joking manner, considering it a "hilarious parody of the formulaic extreme of dance music". The single was released by Play Records and topped the Beatport Top 100 that year. It later featured on Zimmerman's 2008 album At Play. The single's B-side, "This Is Also The Hook", featured on At Play Vol. 2.
Later that year, the duo self-released their debut studio album, Play Here To Click. The full-length album was largely electro house, but featured elements of progressive house. The track "Bitches" also featured on Zimmerman's 2006 album A Little Oblique. The duo also gained attention that year for releasing a remix of "Hurt" by Christina Aguilera.
