Atkinson is an incorporated town in Henry County, Illinois, United States. The population was 972 at the 2010 census, down from 1,001 in 2000.

According to the 2010 census, Atkinson has a total area of 1.596 square miles (4.13 km2), of which 1.58 square miles (4.09 km2) (or 99%) is land and 0.016 square miles (0.04 km2) (or 1%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,001 people, 432 households, and 276 families residing in the town. The population density was 663.2 people per square mile (256.0/km²). There were 453 housing units at an average density of 300.1 per square mile (115.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.50% White, 0.40% African American, 0.10% Asian, 0.30% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races.
