Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, on 23 February 1955. When Al Rabeeah was a young boy, he fell off of his bicycle and injured himself. The wound required stitches, which the treating doctor administered to him without any anesthetic. This caused a lot of pain and discomfort for Al Rabeeah, and was the start of his interest in the medical world. With encouragement from his father, Al Rabeeah decided to study medicine to help to minimize and alleviate the suffering and pain of those in need. Today, Al Rabeeah is recognized as one of the world’s most renowned pediatric surgeons specializing in the separation of conjoined twins.
Al Rabeeah realized his dream of becoming a doctor by first attending King Saud University, Riyadh, where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degrees in July 1979 - (Awarded First Position). He progressed to his internship, which he served and completed in August 1980 at King Khalid University hospital, Riyadh. In 1981, Al Rabeeah was formally licensed to practice medicine; he then decided to continue his studies in Canada, attending the University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton (1985) and IWK Hospital for Children, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia (1987) where he completed Fellowships in General and Pediatric Surgery, respectively.
Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Rabeeah currently serves as the Supervisor General of King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), headquartered in Riyadh.
He also concurrently holds the position of Advisor to the Royal Court. KSrelief was inaugurated on 13 May 2015 by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud; its purpose is to serve both as an aid-monitoring organization and as a direct provider for Saudi humanitarian aid and relief being administered worldwide.
