The 1999 French Open – Women's Singles was the women's singles event of the ninety-eighth edition of the French Open. Arantxa Sánchez Vicario was the defending champion, but she was knocked out by Martina Hingis in the semifinals.
Hingis went on to reach the final, but was defeated by sixth seed Steffi Graf, 4–6, 7–5, 6–2. Graf became the first player in the Open Era to defeat the first, second and third ranked players in the same Grand Slam tournament; defeating No. 2 Lindsay Davenport in the quarterfinals, No. 3 Seles in the semifinals and No. 1 Hingis in the final. Graf equalled Chris Evert's record of nine French Open final appearances, and extended her record of total Open Era Grand Slam singles victories to 22 (a record tied by Serena Williams in 2016). This would end up being the last Grand Slam title Steffi Graf would ever win, as well as being the last French Open she would ever appear in. This would also be the last time that a German player of either gender would win a Grand Slam singles title until Angelique Kerber won the 2016 Australian Open, some seventeen years later.
This tournament also saw the Grand Slam debut of future World No. 1 and four-time French Open champion Justine Henin, who lost to Davenport in the second round.
