The 1974 Intercontinental Cup was a football tie held over two legs in March and April 1975 between Independiente, winners of the 1974 Copa Libertadores, and the runners up of the 1973–74 European Cup, Atlético Madrid (European Cup winners Bayern Munich declined to participate).

The first leg was held on 12 March 1975 at the Estadio Libertadores de América, then known as La Doble Visera, home of Independiente. The match finished up as a 1-0 victory for Independiente. The goals was scored by Agustín Alberto Balbuena in the 34th minute.

Estadio Vicente Calderón hosted the return leg on 10 April 1975. Atlético de Madrid won the second leg 2-0. The goals came from Javier Irureta in the 23rd minute, and Rubén Ayala in the 85th minute. Atlético won on aggregate 2-1.

To this date, Atletico Madrid is the only team that participated in the Intercontinental Cup as the runner-up of the European cup and have managed to win it. (Panathinaikos lost in 1971, Juventus lost in 1973, Borussia Mönchengladbach lost in 1977, Malmö FF lost in 1979 and Milan lost in 1993).
