Number One Cup

Number One Cup was an American indie rock band based in Chicago, Illinois.

Number One Cup was founded, in a manner of speaking, by Seth Cohen, who had previously played in Eliot. He was interviewed by the alternative weekly magazine Newcity in 1993, and told the interviewer that he was planning to see a concert featuring Unrest, Gastr Del Sol, and Stereolab in Chicago; after the story was published, guitarist Pat O'Connell and drummer Michael Lenzi both called Cohen, and the three decided to form a band together. The group went through a series of bassists; John Przyborowski, who was also a former member of Eliot, played bass until Jenni Snyder joined for their second single; she left shortly afterwards. Pat Reis then joined, but left after their debut full-length, after which Przyborowski returned on bass. Following their third album, People People, Why Are We Fighting?, released in 1998, Cohen broke his neck during a hockey game, and the group stalled touring plans for his recovery. Around this time Kurt Volk replaced Przyborowski on bass, but their 1998 LP was their last.
